Holston House Nashville, in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, Nashville Updated 2024 Prices

holston house nashville

The exterior art deco touches are matched by its interior, with neither being overly flashy. Rugs hide the loud checkerboard tile, and the lighting has a more industrial look. The lobby and restaurant both have a great appeal. Not to mention how cozy the space is. The secluded corners and hot chocolate invited me to sit and stay a while.

I poked my head into the upstairs bar in the afternoon before I left, just to take a peek. It’s small, but has a killer aesthetic. I regretted not visiting the evening before. The Tenn bar is open every day, even when dinner isn’t offered.

With a few days to myself around New Year’s Day 2023, I decided to book a last-minute trip to Music City, USA. Gotta use all those flight credits and points I’ve accrued over the last year! After considering several hotel options, I settled on the Holston House Nashville, a Hyatt Unbound Collection property, for my first night. It proved to be an excellent choice. I loved how Holston House felt like I was staying in a downtown studio apartment instead of a typical hotel.

The property is located at 118 7th Ave N in Nashville. The sofa bench at the end of the bed doubles as the desk area. It actually works rather well, and was more comfortable than I expected it would be at first glance. There is even an outlet included in the bed frame, adjacent to the sofa bench. I’d been modestly upgraded to a Holston House Nashville deluxe room.

Holston House is within walking distance of some of Nashville’s best attractions, including the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Ryman auditorium and the live music venues of Broadway, known as the Honky Tonk Highway. The area is also filled with stores for cowboy boots, though locals will tell you no one from Nashville actually wears them — must be all the visiting friends. And a short drive from Holston House is Third Man Records, founded by Jack White of the White Stripes, with records and books for sale, a working 1947 recording booth, and a tour of the studio on Fridays and Saturdays.

The nearest airport is Nashville International Airport, 9 km from Holston House Nashville, in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. Comfy bed and a sofa too.Staff were all very friendly and helpful, housekeeping provided each day. Pool area was open late and provided great views across the city.

Combine both of them and you also get an extra bungalow space for entertaining, with an additional patio. But the true highlight of the hotel is the rooftop pool and bar — long and sleek, and designed more for lounging with a cocktail than swimming, with a fabulous view of the city. The Holston House Nashville would be high on my list to revisit if again in Nashville. The hotel has a great style, comfortable rooms, and an excellent breakfast.

The room was just very comfortable very bright but yet I had room darkening shades to keep out the morning light. The location was fabulous we did a lot of walking and was great location. The lobby is a welcoming lounge with deep red and blue chairs and couches, under a display of vintage speaker cabinets — a nod to Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound — that offer split level views to the downstairs bar and upstairs restaurant. An arch of stage lights leads to the reception desk, and a classical lion’s head water fountain has been updated by a background drawing which turns the beast into a modern rocker with electric guitar. The atmosphere is casual but at a recent dinner there, the food went well beyond expectations — a restaurant worth visiting whether or not staying at the hotel. Downstairs from the lobby, Bar Tenn is a comfortable place to grab coffee during the day and cocktails or wine in the evening. For a boutique hotel, the Holston House offers a great fitness center. There are multiple treadmills and bikes, plus a couple machines and a set of free weights. I’ve been much better the past several months about keeping an exercise regimen while traveling. I really appreciate well-equipped hotel gyms.

The use of an armoire rather than a closet by some modern hotels has grown on me. I actually hung up some of my shirts and my jackets, which is rare for a one-night stay. Fantastic location just a short walk from Broadway. You could walk to all the bars and restaurants on broadway. I like having the toilet separate from the shower.

I enjoy boutique hotels among the more “independent collection” brands offered by the major chains, and some of my most memorable stays have been within Hyatt’s Unbound Collection, Hilton’s Curio Collection, and Marriott’s Design Hotels. I’ve managed to check in extremely early to multiple Hyatt properties, but struck out at the Holston House. I’d feared this would be the case, arriving at a boutique hotel on New Year’s Day. The front desk took my number and assured they’d text me when the room was ready. I dropped my bags and headed out in search of a cup of coffee before walking to church, which filled the remainder of my morning.

Very close to downtown and Nissan Stadium. Easy walk to a lot of restaurants and live music. This air-conditioned double room includes a flat-screen TV with cable channels and a private bathroom. With historic bones and an unrivaled location steps from Broadway, Holston House Nashville mixes a vintage design—think art deco fixtures and sliding barn doors—with inviting Nashvillian touches. It took me a while to get to sleep, but I blame that on the time change and not the bed. Speaking of time, I couldn’t figure out how to turn off clock light. I ended up unplugging the whole thing. The award Category 5 Holston House was asking $334 after taxes for the night of January 1, 2023.

Angela Rayner's ex-husband 'made £134,000 from council house sale'

angelas house

Angela’s House has helped to simplify home care options for families by coordinating the extensive array of services needed to support medically frail children at home. Since the birth of his daughter, Bob Policastro has been a voice to address the problems and needs facing medically fragile children and their families. Bob has many special children in memory along with their families that have touched his heart. He pushed forward with advocacy and educational efforts to promote greater knowledge and understanding of medically frail children and their needs. Coordination of complex home care services and Residential services for medically fragile children.

The daunting task of home care seemed overwhelming, especially without an agency available to coordinate the services needed to support Angela at home. They also learned that there were no local specialized homes or facilities available that could care for her. Strictly Necessary Cookie should be enabled at all times so that we can save your preferences for cookie settings. Rayner has faced calls to publish the legal and tax advice she says she received, to prove she does not owe capital gains tax (CGT) of up to £1,500 on the profits of the sale of her house. Neighbours of Ms Rayner have repeatedly rejected her claim that she lived at Vicarage Road and say she lived with her husband and their children “full-time from about 2009 or 2010”. A month later, he, his wife and their children moved into another property in Ashton under Lyne.

How to Apply for the Health Home Program with Angela’s House

“It is a pleasure to have another exchange with [Rayner] in this house, our fifth in 12 months – any more of these and she’ll be claiming it as her principal residence,” Dowden said. Angela Rayner has accused ministers of “obsessing” over her living arrangements and urged them to focus on implementing long-promised housing reforms instead. She explains how Rayner’s difficult childhood and impressive rise has shaped her politics. From caring for her mother through a serious mental illness to working and studying as a teenage mother, Rayner’s experiences mean she feels she must represent people who have no voice in politics, says Edwardes. Ms Rayner has repeatedly insisted she has done nothing wrong, but has declined to publish details of her tax affairs.

Angela Rayner cannot be UK's deputy PM amid unanswered tax-dodging allegations

She has said she will “do the right thing and step down” if she is found to have committed a criminal offence. The four-bedroom red brick house has three reception rooms, a large secluded garden and two detached garages, according to the Rightmove listing from the time. Despite the couple both selling their homes, Ms Rayner was the sole owner of their new four-bedroom house, bought in 2016. Some legal experts have said Ms Rayner cannot be prosecuted over allegations she gave false information about her main residence because the time limit for such action has passed. Greater Manchester Police are understood to have spoken to neighbours about her living arrangements. Married couples cannot legally have two primary residences for tax purposes.

‘We won’t let this derail us’: Angela Rayner to continue campaigning despite police inquiry

Sylvia Hampson has previously called the Labour Deputy Leader a “f---ing liar” for claiming that she was living in a different address to her then husband, which would have helped her to avoid paying a capital gains tax bill. Tax experts have told The Telegraph that if Mr Rayner was liable to pay capital gains tax, the bill would depend on factors such as income, renovations and estate agent fees, but would likely only be about £500. Angela Rayner’s former husband made £134,000 after selling his former council house, previously unseen documents have revealed. She claimed it was her main residence when it sold in 2015, allowing her to avoid paying capital gains tax of up to £3,500. Ms Rayner is being investigated by police and HMRC over whether she lived at her ex-council house in Vicarage Road, Stockport. Martin Bowen said the Deputy Labour leader was flitting in and out of the property, bringing into question her defence from allegations she dodged capital gains tax.

Residential Care

Greater Manchester Police is investigating whether any offences were committed, and is understood to have spoken to neighbours about Ms Rayner’s living arrangements. On the same day Ms Rayner bought the house, her husband sold his Lowndes Lane home for £145,250, according to Rightmove. According to The Times, residents of Vicarage Road told Greater Manchester police Ms Rayner was involved in a row in 2015 with the family of a local boy who kicked a football through a window of the property. Click "Reactivate" below to enable Real Time Bid Refresh and see the most recent bidding activity, or click "Cancel" to keep it disabled. In a previous statement, Ms Rayner said she was “completely confident” that she had followed the rules at all times but said she would resign if she was found to have committed a criminal offence.

Family Support Services

Angela’s House recognizes that each child has unique needs and we always work to provide the best services possible for each individual we serve. Dowden joked that Rayner would be claiming the House of Commons as her principal residence soon. The deputy Labour leader is facing questions over whether she paid the right amount of tax on the 2015 sale of her Stockport council house. Angela’s House also has additional Home Care programs and our three specialized group homes for medically fragile children that can no longer live at home with their families. These homes offer 24-hour nursing care in a warm, loving home environment suited to accommodate their complex physical and medical needs. In 1992, the non for profit Angela’s House was created to offer families and professionals an agency to call to help medically frail children and their families.

But HMRC says married couples or civil partners can only count one property as their primary residence. Mr Bowen also revealed his daughter let her brother Darren, 46, live at the property.

Angela Rayner council home mystery deepens after her dad says she ‘flitted’ between her house & husband’s property

If it is not correct, and, as neighbours have claimed, Ms Rayner was living at Lowndes Lane with her husband, then she would not have been entitled to PRR. Police are investigating multiple allegations against Ms Rayner, the deputy Labour leader, with at least a dozen officers assigned to the case. The city’s SurveyLA program had identified the property as potentially historic, but no protections were afforded, the conservancy wrote on Instagram. Last year, the couple purchased the 1950 Zimmerman house, designed by the architect Craig Ellwood, in Los Angeles’s Brentwood neighborhood for $12.5m. The residence, with landscaping by Garrett Eckbo – who has been described as the pioneer of modern landscaping – had previously been featured in Progressive Architecture magazine. If you feel your child may qualify for this program, please contact our Angela’s House intake coordinator to assist with the application process.

Ms Rayner, the Labour deputy leader, has insisted that, while they were together, she lived at a house she owned on Vicarage Road. The home has the ability to care for children that require ventilator support. The overall lack of services locally put additional emotional and physical strains on the Policastros, as they would travel to Connecticut over 2 hours away to spend time with their daughter. Angela succumbed to her frail state and passed away shortly after her first birthday. Rayner has said she will publish details of her tax arrangements only if Conservative ministers publish theirs, but has promised to resign if she is found by police to have committed an offence.

Angela’s House offers comprehensive care management to assist families caring for medically fragile children at home. Qualifying children will be assigned a Care Manager that will be responsible for the overall management of the child’s plan of care. We help families and children with their needs and continuously strive to access a full range of services and resources that are available. Our goal is to work collaboratively with the family and service providers to meet the needs and interests of the children that we service. The Care Manager is key to the success of the home care plan and is an integral part of the team, working to help with advocacy, planning and delivery of services.

Rambler Houses: History, Key Elements, Types & Top Designs

rambler house

Initially, in the 1950s, ranch-style houses had open living spaces, but later on, the floor plans were akin to builder homes than personalized ones. Long story short, homeowners had fewer layouts to pick from, and the ones available were hardly flexible. A split-level ranch welcomes you into a kitchen, living, and dining areas, while stairs lead you to the additional living space above and below the entry-level. Split-level ranches feature a minimalist design like suburban rambler-style houses. Add all the new home construction—especially in huge preplanned housing developments—to the already-extant 20th-century ranch houses, and you get most of your answer.

Do Ramblers have basements?

All ranch-style houses are not laid out the same way, but they share a few characteristics that define their style. Here are notable features of a ranch house that make it stand out. In a rambler house, the lack of multiple levels for bedrooms and bathrooms can result in reduced privacy compared to a two-story house. This situation can pose particular difficulties for families with teenagers or guests. Once you enter the house you can either go upstairs or down to the rest of the house. This type is also called “split-entry” due to the inside structure.

Split LevelsWhile most ramblers have only one story, there are some split level homes that are considered rambler variations. This is true especially if they have some of the other architectural features common to ramblers, as well as that low profile look from the exterior.Ranch or Rambler? The mid century rambler is very similar to the ranch, and most of the time, there’s little to no difference between the two house styles.

Modern ranch house style

As with many home styles, ranch houses are not limited to one single “look.” Specifically, there are six types of ranch style homes you may find in your home search. Here’s what they look like and what features you can typically expect. Because there is no second floor then you can only build on if you have the space to do so horizontally. Not everyone lives on a parcel of land big enough to create the size of home they are hoping for, especially if their family grows and they require more bedrooms and bathrooms. There are also not as many structural changes that can take place in a rambler so completely changing a floor plan to suit your vision may not be possible. Most ramblers are either open plan or compartmentalized, but all of them can be modified somewhat though there are usually limitations.

Rambler homes went out of style in the 1970s, mainly because it was too expensive, at that time, due to higher land costs.

They are still being built for the ones who are looking for smaller and more manageable houses. Even though they’re smaller and simpler, the suburban ranch style is known for being a modern rendition of the ranch-style. As its name suggests, this type of ranch house has an additional level, and also the ground level is slightly raised from the ground. Even though the house is only a single level, the ceilings will always be vaulted or have exposed beams. The West Coast architect Cliff May designed the first Rambler home in the 1930s.

Here, what I suggest is to perhaps design a house plan where you let your elderly parents stay at the far end of the house. We prioritize your comfort and convenience, incorporating features like sliding glass doors, vaulted ceilings, and large windows for natural light. Vaulted CeilingsThe typical home has 8-foot ceilings, and vaulted ceilings can be anywhere from feet or higher. Because ramblers don’t have second stories to restrict the height of the ceilings, vaulted ceilings are a typical architectural feature. They make the house feel tall and luxurious even though from the outside, the structure still looks shorter than other two-story homes. If User does not agree to these terms, User is not authorized to use this Site.

Additionally, ranch homes were built low-to-the-ground, making it easier to withstand the Southwestern heat and required minimal maintenance. Rambler house style buildings can be found all throughout the United States but the way they are built is best suited to warmer states. These houses are considered historic so there are some options if someone were to wish to restore their rambler to its glory days. These beautiful structures have an open quality that is not as easily found in other styles. The large windows, low roofs, and open plans make them ideal for people who like to feel connected to their neighborhood or environment. This particular style of the house was made popular in a time when the modern infrastructure for homes was beginning to be prevalent so their many internal systems are easily updated.

Until then architects used to separate the backyards with walls from the house but the walls disappeared after the arrival of the rambler home style. In the 1930s, a new architectural movement started in the state of California. The movement included previous knowledge of architecture and brand-new construction technologies. These characteristics work together to make this type of home well-suited for Southwestern climates and those who love nature. After a decades-long hiatus, the rambler home has proven that not only is it here to stay, but it is waking up from its deep sleep and stretching its wings. If you find yourself attracted to the style and would like to know more about them, read on.

The large windows also add to the visual appeal, which is amiss in many modern city homes. You can find rambler houses across the USA, with the majority of them on the West Coast. However, of late, this Mexican haciendas inspired architectural style is very much in vogue throughout North America. The rambler house design is an American classic that never truly falls out of favor. These homes take advantage of large plots of land without the hassle of multi-story homes.

Rancher-style homes were for ranchers who preferred one-story, low, and simple structures to withstand the weather in the mountains and plains. Ramblers often feature smaller yards compared to two-story houses because they occupy more ground space. This can pose a challenge for families with pets or children who love outdoor activities.

As the concept of a "drive-in" shopping center was being created and popularized, the ranch style was a perfect style to fit into the large tracts of ranch homes being built. The interior floor plan of a rambler house is characterized by its single-story and open concept living room, kitchen, and dining area. Bedrooms in this style of home are separate from the living space and many homes have a basement that functions as another living room. Ranch homes have minimal architectural details, leaving room for owners to put their own stamp on the home’s interior. Our rambler-style homes incorporate sliding glass doors, vaulted ceilings, and large windows. These elements not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the houses but also allow for ample natural light, creating a bright and inviting living space.

Similar in style to California ranch homes, the modern ranch house uses a variety of materials like wood and stone to blend into nearby nature. However, modern ramblers don’t have any Spanish architectural influence, meaning you’ll find more clean lines and updated interiors. The ranch-style house was characterized as being plain with low-pitched roofs, extended eaves and large windows.

Our showrooms are conveniently located in both the North Hills and South Hills of Pittsburgh. We pride ourselves on providing our customers with the best products on the market. We offer quartz, granite, laminate, and butcher block.

What’s your budget?

This diagram details the construction of the cabinets in any of the three door styles listed above. We do not provide these items, you would need to purchase them elsewhere. But with purchase of a kitchen, we can help with installation. Evanko did an excellent work in modernizing our kitchen. They were really helpful in guiding us through and finding creative solutions to our desires without challenging the budget too much.

The quality of cabinets, pricing and service was excellent. Each of our designers works closely with you to thoroughly assess the functionality of your current kitchen area. This enables us to re-imagine the possibilities for a new design & an ideal layout for your specific needs & tastes. We present you with potential design layouts that allow you to consider the options available for your makeover.

Pricing was affordable and everything was completed on time. My husband and I had a great experience working with Jen at Jacob Evans for our kitchen remodel. From start to finish, Jen was responsive to our needs and provided excellent customer service. Our contractors loved the binder provided to them as a reference. We have recommended Jacob Evans to friends, and will continue to do so. “I recently hired Terra to redesign my kitchen and provide cabinets and countertop.

JACOB EVANS KITCHEN & BATH REVIEWS

We couldn’t have selected a better partner to navigate us through all the design decisions and selections. We already plan to use JacobEvans for a future master bathroom remodel. To all persons interested in using BKG Designs, they are fabulous. We are in the restoration construction business and were introduced to BKG Design through a homeowner.

All cabinets are kept in stock and ready to assemble. This eliminates the long lead times for shipping and allows orders to be filled in no time. We offer trash kits, pull-out spice racks, pantry cabinets, wine racks, glass inserts, roll-out trays, single-tier silverware separators, sink base tip-out trays, and a few others. Limited physical samples are available for viewing in our showrooms & we also offer catalogs to view all options.

We have several in-house contractors who install cabinetry. Installation of a stone countertop would be done by the company through which the slab is purchased. A laminate countertop would be installed either by our team (if we are installing the cabinetry) or by your hired contractor. The team was helpful and responsive, the cabinets are high quality and the kitchen came out beautifully at a reasonable cost. We partnered with Michael and Bethany at JacobEvans for a massive kitchen, powder room and first floor remodel. It was a major project for us with a lot of moving parts and decision.

Moving into a home, gutting the kitchen and coming up with a layout within four weeks is very stressful. Noellewas able to get the cabinets ordered quickly so they could be installed before we move it. My husband decided to install the cabinets, so I cannot comment on the installation process, but I can't wait to see the kitchen complete.

However, if you want to ensure that you will be able to meet with a designer, we recommend contacting one of our showrooms for an appointment prior to visiting. What is a Mid Century Rambler House?

rambler house

Rambler house plans are also open, which is ideal for family and friends gatherings. In another nod to modernist homes, ramblers often prioritized outdoor spaces for entertaining and gathering. This connection to the outdoors is reinforced by large windows and easy access to back patios to create a connection between nature and the home itself. These homes have unique exterior features like trim, different shaped windows, and other design characteristics.

This design makes rambler homes excellent for accommodating and entertaining guests. The rambler style boasts a lower-pitched roof compared to other styles. Ranch-style homes have wide eaves that stick out further than most designs. The relative affordability, open-concept interior space, and minimalist exterior are a few reasons for adding a ranch house to your house-hunting list. There are many types of rambler-style houses, but they all share iconic elements.

Cons of ranch houses

Original rambler homes built in the 40s and 50s are still standing. The homes serve as mini-museums for past suburban architecture, or they’ve been replaced by ranch-style homes. Rambler homes have the same architectural style as ranch houses; they are called different things depending on the location that you are in. What we love about this type is that split-level ranch houses look like traditional rambler houses from the outside but the inside includes 2 to 3 levels. This is a great option for families who want to have more than 1 level but at the same time prefer the outside look of rambler houses. Though their wide layouts make for large footprints, the majority of rambler homes are one-story structures.

While large windows, vaulted ceilings, and garage space may sound like a sweet deal, make sure to calculate the renovation costs. While the architecture style was introduced decades ago, it stood the test of time for its modern infrastructure.

In ranch homes with a basement, it’s quite common for the floor of that space to be poured concrete. The look of the ranch home and that inclusion of outdoor space makes since given the fact that ranch style homes trace their roots to California in the 1920s. Often confused with split-level ranches, raised ranches – also called split-entry ranches – are distinctly different. Raised ranch homes open to a stairwell, leading to the two levels in the home. Upstairs typically consists of the standard open-plan kitchen, living room, and dining space, as well as bedrooms and bathrooms. However, ramblers are known for being a single-story home style with their entry on the ground level and having a square or rectangular shape.

This is a significant advantage considering that homeowners can carry out any remodeling or repair projects with ease. Rambler homes are typical one-story structures that were popular in the 1950s and ’60s. But recently, they have garnered interest in the real estate scene. Postal workers dropping off packages or neighbors walking by can easily see into your bedroom. Privacy is a major issue when it is dark outside and the lights are on inside. Ranch-style houses are also safe during severe storms and earthquakes.

Is San Marcos, CA, a Good Place to Live? 10 Pros and Cons of Living in San Marcos

rambler house

Ranch houses are available in several “looks” like many home architectural designs. You will come across six ranch-style home styles in listings or at auctions. Here is what they look like and the characteristics you can expect in each. One of the most popular home styles is the rambler house or ranch-style house. These houses are versatile and have enormous appeal to various homebuyers. Rambler houses are often more energy-efficient than multi-story homes.

rambler house

In her new role with the Iconic Team, Steph will be responsible for the growth of the team and will be working with all of our agents to increase their productivity and bottom line. At Ardor Homes Massachusetts, we have a team of experts ready to assist you in finding the perfect home for you and your family. You should consider safety and evacuation when looking at a home. Ramblers have ground-floor windows that are easy to open and climb to safety. Safety is a big issue if you have elderly people or toddlers in your household.

Upgrades are cost-intensive affairs and more likely essential in these old houses. Sometimes, you may have to undertake extensive changes to modernize the interiors and increase overall efficiency. So, if you plan on living in one of these, weigh in on the cost and time it will take to make it up to scratch.

This style was first introduced by architect Cliff May who named it “California Ranch Style”. That’s why both terms rambler style and ranch style homes are used interchangeably to describe the style mentioned above. A rambler-style home usually includes long and low profiles and minimal exterior and interior decorations.

Furthermore, since most of these structures are built on concrete slabs, much of the heat escapes through the foundation. So, if you have guests staying over, you can’t just move to another floor. This could also be bothersome if you’re running a business or office at home and need seclusion to work peacefully. The above information including square footage is based on data received from the seller and/or from public sources.

Ramblers’ low-pitched gable roofs and extended eaves provide more shade in sunny climates. The single-story, open floor plan, which creates an L or U shape, is ideal for energy efficiency and climate control. The rambler movement connected outdoor spaces with indoor spaces.

Once you start living in a rambler-style home, you'll feel closer to nature. Then, you've surely noticed how different houses can be with their characteristics and styles. Maybe you also have a dream house in your mind with a number of bedrooms, bathrooms, interior, and exterior designs. This was one of the first architectural styles to incorporate an attached garage into the home design. This evolution in home design perfectly suited the needs of the modern American family in the 1950s and 1960s. They’re not on the same level; these rooms are underneath the kitchen, bedrooms, or living rooms.

He was inspired by the ranches in the Southwest, as well as Mexican adobe haciendas. He was also credited with creating the California ranch style, which is considered the original ranch-style or rambler home. Apart from its amazing aesthetics, another major reason behind its popularity is that the ranch-style homes are both utilitarian and fashionable. Another aspect of ranch homes to note is that you may encounter cold spots, as a one-story home doesn’t handle heat loss as well as a house with levels. In the cold winter months, it may be difficult for your heating system to warm the parts of your home that are farthest from the furnace.

Reykjavik was just a small village until seeing a major expansion after World War II, but this popular cruise destination still offers a small town feel different than any other European capital. Incredible mosaic art and ancient architecture grace this small port city, often used as a jump-off point for cruisers looking to spend some time in Venice. The seafood is fresh, the sun is shining and there’s a whole lot to do, so get out there and explore the city before, during and after your cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida. Buenos Aires is a charming European style city with the perfect combination of new world characteristics mixed with old world history and culture.

Jewel Class

You'll get things like priority check-in and discounted spa treatments performed while ships are in port. This pricing is quite a bit higher than what some other lines, such as Carnival or Princess, charge for Wi-Fi. Princess recently was charging just $14.99 per person per day for a WiFi package. Instead, you can travel with a state-certified birth certificate or other proof of citizenship and a driver's license or other government-issued photo identification. That said, Norwegian strongly recommends that all travelers bring a passport.

Enjoy the great outdoors in Oslo, the beautiful and spacious capital of Norway, where the city includes lakes, forests and lots of history. In Miami, you’ll enjoy a small taste of the tropical weather many of you will experience during your cruise, and you’ll see why Miami is one of the most popular places to live in America.

Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva were built with a higher ratio of space to passengers than earlier Norwegian vessels, which itself is an upscale touch. The ships also have a higher crew-to-passenger ratio than many Norwegian ships, leading to better service. If it's swanky digs you're after (and you have the money to spend), you'll find plenty of options on these ships. At 169,116 tons and carrying 3,958 passengers, Norwegian Encore is the largest ship in the Norwegian fleet. That means it has the most space for the many over-the-top family fun zones that are at the core of the four Breakaway-Plus vessels — a series of ships that was specifically designed with families in mind.

On some ships, you'll also find Ocean Blue, a seafood restaurant; The District Brew House, a gastropub serving craft beers; and a Mexican spot called either Los Lobos or Los Lobos Cantina. Every vessel has some sort of sushi restaurant, often called Sushi or Wasabi, and there are hibachi-style teppanyaki restaurants on nearly every Norwegian vessel. On Norwegian's recently built Breakaway Plus-class ships, there are up to 20 places to grab a bite, ranging from high-end French restaurants and steakhouses to casual pubs.

The sailings in and out of Buenos Aires and Melbourne, all on the longer side, will offer in-depth explorations of the southern half of South America (Argentina, Uruguay and Chile) and New Zealand, respectively. Over the next two years, for instance, Norwegian Sun is sailing lots of long voyages out of such less-common home ports as Benoa, Indonesia; Melbourne, Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Papeete, Tahiti. Norwegian Sun also is the ship that Norwegian deploys on some of its longest and most destination-focused itineraries, the type that particularly appeals to retirees looking to see more of the world.

Norwegian Sun's top deck mostly comprises sunning areas, with a single pool and whirlpools, as is typical for ships built more than two decades ago. For older travelers looking for a Norwegian ship that isn't filled to the gills with children, Norwegian Sun is the perfect option. A bigger caveat, perhaps, is that these solo cabins have become so popular they often sell out far in advance and at prices that aren't much better than booking a cabin for two.

The cruise line has ships leaving from New York, Boston, Miami, New Orleans and Seattle. If you do want to travel abroad they have ships in Europe leaving from ports like Venice, Barcelona and Copenhagen. Check out all of their itineraries on our site and then call us to discuss the best vacation option for you with our expert cruise consultants. As is the case with the Galaxy Pavilion attractions mentioned above, the go-kart and laser tag experiences on Norwegian ships don't come cheap. You'll pay $15 per person for an eight-lap romp on the go-karts. Norwegian ships also all have Mandara Spas, which can be quite big on the bigger vessels, and there are fitness centers on every ship. There's nothing quite like Galaxy Pavilion in the cruise world. There are also Howl at the Moon dueling piano bars on some Norwegian ships, and there's the lively Q Texas Smokehouse found on Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Joy (a music-and-food concept that pairs live music with barbecue).

Whether you use a travel agent or not, make sure to maximize your purchase when paying for the cruise by using a card that offers extra points for travel purchases. Pricing changes over time, but the fastest "premium" service on Norwegian vessels recently was priced at $39.99 per person per day, if you bought it in advance. Norwegian also offers a less expensive plan that doesn't allow video streaming for $29.99 per person per day if purchased in advance. Also, every ship has a least four and often many more extra-charge eateries. Two found across the entire fleet are Cagney's, the line's signature steakhouse, and Le Bistro, a fine French restaurant. Every ship also has an Italian restaurant, called Onda by Scarpetta or La Cucina.

That means doing more than discovering the things you can’t do on cruises anymore or learning how cruise ships have adapted since the pandemic. It’s wise to learn some of the code words major cruise lines employ during emergencies and other delicate situations. Hearing “Bravo, Bravo, Bravo” on a ship can, after all, point to a serious issue. “Code Alpha” or “Alpha, Alpha, Alpha” is one of the most common secret codes you’ll hear the broadcast on a cruise ship.

However, other passengers who had already been there when that incident happened may disagree. Then, cruise ship security is dispatched to deal with whoever’s fighting. Hidden meanings and practical uses of secret codes on cruise ships go beyond emergency situations. Exploring secrecy can reveal codes for muster drills, crew announcements, and more. As a cruise expert, I have insight into how to decode these hidden messages. These codes are not meant to alarm passengers, but rather to ensure the safety and security of everyone on board. The secret cruise code “Sierra” is used to communicate that a stretcher is required on board to assist with a medical emergency. Due to this, you might hear the “Sierra” cruise code after you hear one of the “Alpha” cruise codes. “Alpha Alpha” is a term that is often used on cruise ships to refer to a designated meeting point or assembly area in the case of an emergency or evacuation. It is commonly used during the mandatory safety drill, known as the muster drill, which takes place at the beginning of every cruise.

Ever wondered what those strange—and sometimes downright funny—codes that a cruise ship captain uses to communicate with crew members mean? Maybe you’ve heard the crew saying weird things that didn’t make sense. Some announcements, in airports and on cruise ships, signal a serious emergency. Others simply inform staff that a queasy passenger has thrown up on the top deck. Some cruise lines use “Code Blue” as an alternative to “Alpha” codes to communicate that there is a medical emergency on board.

If you hear a code alpha on a cruise ship, there is a medical emergency onboard. It might be repeated three times, so you might hear it as “Bravo Bravo Bravo,” but either way, “Bravo” means there’s a fire on board. Be sure to follow all instructions from the crew to ensure your safety – though this applies to all cruise ship codes, really. Furthermore, the usage of “Alpha Alpha” contributes to a sense of unity and shared understanding among passengers and crew members.

Sometimes the code “Bright Star” or “Fallen star” is used to signify someone has died. Is code on some ships to communicate there has been a death on the ship. It is a code used when an urgent clean-up is required, for example, if someone has vomited in a public area.

Soon enough, that announcement will be followed by confining all the affected passengers to their quarters to keep the illness from spreading further. After a short period of time, everything will go back to being peaceful and laid-back as it should be on a cruise.
